ORC Spring 2024 - Week 6

Hi all! Week 6 of the One Room Challenge is over. Week 6 - or as I have come to think of it - The Week I Realized I Won’t Finish On Time. *sigh* Life is life-ing over here. And as I started to schedule out when I would have time to do The Big Scary Thing (microcement over tile) with the appropriate drying time guidance and sealing, I realized the timeline is just not syncing with the workload I have on the plate and the rest of the things I need to do after the microcement is up and cured.

That being said, the ORC is still a great motivator for me. So I am still going to post weekly updates on my progress and finish as soon as I can. BUT I’m liberating myself from severely over-extending myself to finish an internet challenge on time that I elected to join LOL.

So here is where I am at now: we have light! And I built the inset shelves! Ok, so I don’t have a picture of the light installed handy now, but you can imagine a cute lil light there and smoother joint compound after I sanded. But take a look at those beautiful consistent holes that equal maximum adjustability! It makes my organizer’s heart very happy :D I must have all the options for maximizing storage.

Other updates that are less exciting (at least for now): I discovered that my wallpaper choice is backordered for at least 4 weeks. I supposed I could wait or take it as a sign to expand my view. So I looked for another option that is in stock. And I landed on another one. It has birds on it, which I LOVE, and more green. Plus, the lighter blue-green ties in some other elements of my bedroom and the living room. I think it is going to work really well!

I also explored a new flooring option. If you’ll recall from Week 5, I didn’t love the color from the flooring sample I got. So I reached out to another vendor on Etsy, sent some inspiration photos, and they put together a custom listing for me. The mockups look fantastic! I should have them in hand within a week or so, and I’ll share more details then. Hopefully the real thing looks as good as the digital version!

Next week, I will work on trimming out the shelves. I found the cutest lil decorative trim! I can’t wait to see it up. I’m also going to be starting the microcement in Week 8. I could use preemptory prayers, please and thank you. Until next time…
